The Spanish Rafael Nadal has qualified this Tuesday to play the semifinals of Roland Garros , the third and last ‘Grand Slam’ of the season, for the thirteenth time in his career, after defeating the Italian Jannik Sinner by 7- in his hundredth game in Paris 6 (4), 6-4 and 6-1 . In a match played in a night session, Rafa worked hard and sealed his victory in 2 hours and 49 minutes.
The number 2 of the ranking will be measured for a place in the final against Argentine Diego Schwartzman , who has just defeated him at the 1000 Masters in Rome .
The match against Sinner, an unprecedented rival for Rafa, started after 10:30 p.m. (20:30 GMT), but that was not an impediment for the Mallorcan to qualify for the semifinals in search of his 13th crown, without losing any set.
A worked victory
Unable to find his best tennis, Nadal suffered and was even seen on the ropes when Sinner broke him in the eleventh game of the first set. The one from San Candido had not conceded a single breaking ball and it seemed that he could close the set, but then the ‘drive’ of the manacorí appeared to come to the rescue, achieve the long-awaited ‘break’ and force a ‘sudden death’ where his best hit continued to hurt his rival.
